Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - LaMarcus Aldridge was unexpectedly in the Portland lineup on Saturday night and the All-Star power forward helped his team snap a two-game losing streak. Aldridge scored 26 points with nine rebounds in the Trail Blazers 103-96 win over the Washington Wizards. The Blazers announced earlier in the day that Aldridge will hold off having surgery on a torn radial collateral ligament in his left thumb. He was originally slated for surgery next week and expected to miss 6-8 weeks. I felt OK, said Aldridge. There were a few moments where I got hit and it was kind of tender but for the most part it was OK. That decision proved to be beneficial for Portland. Damian Lillard deposited 20 points with seven assists and Wesley Matthews added 19 points in the win. John Wall led the Wizards with 25 points and nine assists, while Paul Pierce registered 19 points and Bradley Beal chipped in with 16 points. We just have to learn to be more consistent, Pierce said. Were a defensive team, were a team that moves the ball, were a team that doesnt turn the ball over much. When we stick to those things, we usually have a good outcome. Matthews converted successive 3-pointers to push the Blazers in front 87-85 with 3:29 left in the game. Lillard then made two free throws prior to his trey that capped an 11-0 run. Washington pulled to within three after a Nene layup, but he missed the ensuing free throw. Nene committed a shooting foul of Meyers Leonard on a 3- pointer, and Leonard nailed each of the free throws to make it a 97-91 game. Lillard gave those free throws right back, however, fouling Wall from beyond the arc on the Wizards next possession. Aldridge followed with two from the charity stripe with 45.7 seconds left for a 99-94 edge. Wall kept Washington close with a layup out of a timeout, but Dorell Wright pulled down a big offensive rebound with 16.9 seconds on the clock, then Lillard made two free throws to essentially seal it. Pierce scored Washingtons first five points as it started the game with a 13-2 spurt. The Wizards led by as many as 14 in the first quarter and held a 32-20 edge entering the second. Wright hit a 3-pointer to begin a 13-5 run for Portland that cut its deficit to 41-36. Pierce knocked down a trey to close the scoring in the half, giving Washington a 55-45 lead at the break. Aldridges mid-range jumper gave the Blazers a 69-68 lead with under two minutes left in the third. Washington made two field goals in the final six- plus minutes, but Andre Miller supplied the last of those two which helped the Wizards to a 70-69 lead heading to the fourth. Game Notes Pierce became the fourth player in NBA history, joining Ray Allen, Reggie Miller and Jason Terry, to make 2,000 3-pointers ... Washington has lost two straight ... Utah didnt trail until late in the fourth quarter, when UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley went up top and found Eldridge Massington for a 40-yard touchdown to make it 28-27 in favor of the home team. Devontae Booker led Utah down the field on the decisive possession, with his 15-yard run on 3rd-and-4 from the UCLA 32 setting up Phillips kick. Booker carried a career-high 33 times for 156 yards. Mobile QB Kendal Thompson relieved starter Travis Wilson early on and ignited Utahs offense. The transfer from Oklahoma completed 10-of-13 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown and ran for 83 yards. Utah (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12) beat an AP top-10 team on the road for just the second time in school history. After Phillips put the Utes in front, Hundley completed three passes for 22 yards and ran for nine yards to get the Bruins (4-1, 1-1) to the brink of kicker Kaimi Fairbairns range. Fairbairn missed his 55-yard kick as time expired wide right, but was given another opportunity when the refs ruled that a Utah defender ran into him. The penalty was ultimately meaningless, as Fairbairn missed the ensuing 50-yarder. Hundley threw for 269 yards -- 93 of which came on a touchdown reception by Devin Fuller -- and two scores on 16-of-21 passing, but spent most of the contest oon his back.dddddddddddd The preseason Heisman Trophy candidate was sacked a career-high 10 times. Utah took an early 7-0 lead when Tevin Carter intercepted Hundley and ran it back 27 yards to the end zone. Booker carried five straight times on Utahs fourth drive of the game before Thompson lofted a pass to Dres Anderson, who made a leaping grab in double coverage and fell into the end zone. UCLA cut into its deficit on the ensuing possession, with Paul Perkins doing the bulk of the work on the ground. He ran seven times for 67 yards and capped the drive with a 4-yard touchdown. Phillips then sent Utah into halftime with a 17-7 lead after drilling a 48- yard field goal late in the second quarter. The Bruins manufactured a 13-play, 80-yard trek early in the third and pulled to within three points on Eddie Vanderdoes 1-yard touchdown. Booker restored the 10-point cushion with his 6-yard touchdown run late in the third, but a wheel route to Fuller with 12:22 left in the fourth led to the longest touchdown of the juniors career and another three-point spread. Phillips hit another field goal midway through the final frame, this time from 45 yards away, to make it 27-21. Game Notes Utah topped UCLA on the road for the first time in program history ... Utah defensive end Nate Orchard sacked Hundley four times. Hunter Dimick had 2 1/2 sacks ... UCLA had won 11 straight games against unranked opponents.
