PHILADELPHIA -- Spencer Hawes had the hot hand and Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown wasnt afraid to ride it. The 76ers centre hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left in regulation and scored 11 of his 25 points in the final two minutes of regulation and overtime Friday night to lead Philadelphia to a 115-107 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Sixers trailed 98-88 with 2:10 to play but forced the extra session with a 14-4 run that featured three 3-pointers from Hawes, the last one tying the game. Hawes ran to the sideline to catch an inbounds pass, turned, and while falling away from the basket, released his shot on one leg. "Coach drew it up in the huddle and it reminded me of the last time a coach drew up a 3 for me to tie a game," Hawes said. "I was in college. I thought (Brown) screwed something up." Evan Turner added 27 points in helping the 76ers snap a four-game skid. "I guess the basketball gods were looking out for us and Spencer played well all night," said Turner who threw Hawes the inbounds pass. Hawes and Turner accounted for 19 of the Sixers final 22 points. Hawes added 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double in 14 games, and Turner was 8 for 12 from the field in the fourth quarter and overtime. "Spencer took us where we needed to go, and Evan took us home," Brown said. Caron Butler scored 38 points for Milwaukee, which lost its seventh straight. Butler fell two points shy of his career high on 13-of-22 shooting from the floor. He was 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. His 3-pointer from the right corner with 27.8 left in the game looked as if it would end Milwaukees skid, the franchises longest since it lost eight in a row to close the 2007-2008 season. "Yeah, I thought the game was in our control," Butler said. "But we havent developed a winning brand of basketball yet." Only two Bucks finished in double figures. Ersan Ilyasova scored 19 points and Gary Neal had 10. The Sixers also dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Bucks 50-32 and outscoring them 52-28 on points in the paint and 13-4 on second-chance opportunities. Still, had Hawes not hit his improbable fall-away, the Bucks would have won. "That was a tough shot," Butler said. "Hawes faded away, shot off one leg maybe, but it shouldnt have come to that. We had a lot of chances and all we needed was stops and rebounds." The Sixers actually led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter, but the Bucks scored 23 of the final 31 points in the period to get within 55-53 at the break. At that point, the Sixers were led by rookie forward and Georgetown product Hollis Thompson, who had a team-high 10 points in the first half and finished with a career-high 16. Guards James Anderson and Michael-Carter Williams added 12 points apiece, and Carter-Williams fell two rebounds of a triple-double, recording 11 assists and eight boards. The Sixers shot a season-high 57 per cent from the field and led the Bucks in almost every offensive category, but forfeited their early lead and found themselves down by double-digits in the fourth quarter thanks to 26 turnovers that led to 28 Milwaukee points. "We were very lucky," Brown said. Bucks coach Larry Drew couldnt say the same, but ended up sounding a lot like Butler. "Towards the end, we relaxed," he said. "We didnt defend the 3-point line. James Anderson got away and hit one, and Hawes hit three of them. "It was a tough shot. It was a desperation shot. It shouldnt have gotten to that point. We had opportunities, we just didnt capitalize on them." NOTES: Sixers second-year guard Tony Wroten left the game in the second half with a lower-back strain and did not return. ... The world champion was quickest in all three sectors to set a fastest lap time of 1:37.583 on the supersoft tyre, almost 0.9 seconds clear of his Mercedes team-mate, who finished third behind Sebastian Vettel.Vettel was around seven tenths adrift of Hamilton though his session was cut short after an electrical failure in the Ferrari as the German was forced to pull up on the pit straight, and was soon pushed back to the garage by stewards. The Ferrari drivers problems in Sochi were then compounded by a five-place gearbox change grid penalty.Rosberg, who has won the first three races of the season, topped the timesheets in P1 but wasnt able to set a representative time on the quicker tyre later on Friday and seemed to be held up in traffic, with Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo ending the session in fourth and fifth. Hamilton didnt completely avoid issues, struggling along with many other drivers with a lack of grip around the former Winter Olympics venue, while his W07 was also stuck in the pits with a hydraulics problem for part of the afternoon. However, he was able to pull everything together for a superb flying lap on the red-marked compound.Mercedes and Ferrari spend their first in-season engine tokens Much like earlier in the day, Mercedes seemed to hold a distinct advantage over Ferrari and were more than half a second faster on both the soft and supersoft tyre. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is happy with the pace he set on Fridays Practice 1 and 2 in the Russian GP. Both teams have spent their first in-season engine tokens, with the Silver Arrows focusing on fuel-system improvements while Vettel and Raikkonen will race with new internal combustion engines. But the Scuderias afternoon was once again dogged by reliability issues.Vettel groaned that he had lost electronics after grinding to a halt on the start-finish straight and while he was wheeled back to the pits, a red ERS light flashing on the car meant it was not safe to touch. Mechanics worked on the SF16-H with insulation gloves on for the rest of the session. Vettel and Raikkonen have both registered a DNF apiece in the opening three rounds and the Scuderia will hope it is a minoor electrical issue on the car, rather than anything related to Vettels third engine of the season.ddddddddddddATCH: Red Bull test new canopyIt seems to be every single weekend theres some reliability issue affecting that Ferrari power unit, Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft said.Vettel, meanwhile, added: The balance was not quite where I wanted it to be, but the circuit should come our way. It was quite slippery. Lacking a bit of information from my side but other people did their homework and hopefully we can copy that a bit. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel is unsure what caused his electrical failure in Practice 2 of the Russian GP The second half of P2 saw teams focus on longer stints with the race again expected to be a one-stop affair. Ricciardo, after his earlier eye-catching lap trialling the Red Bull canopy, displayed remarkable consistency in comparison to Raikkonen, who struggled with tyre wear. There was another promising Friday performance for McLaren as Jenson Button finished just three thousandths of a second behind Daniil Kvyat in eighth, with Fernando Alonso two tenths slower in 10th.Haas, meanwhile, werent able to replicate their early-season form once again, with Romain Grosjean reporting that something isnt working on the car since China. He and Esteban Gutierrez finished P16 and P17 respectively.Practice Two timesheet1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes, 1:37.5832. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari, 1:38.2353. Nico Rosberg, Mercedes, 1:38.4504.
