PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Trailing lowly Tennessee by 11 points in the third quarter on Monday night, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive co-ordinator Todd Haley did something curious. He stuck with the run.Rather than abandoning the gameplan and relying on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to bail the Steelers out — again — Haley remained confident that if Roethlisberger kept turning around and giving the ball running back LeVeon Bell, good things would keep happening. They did, and then some.Legs churning relentlessly behind an offensive line that relished the chance to simply put its head down and mash forward, the Steelers rode Bell to a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns and an even more impressive game-ending drive in which they chewed up the final 6:58 behind their budding second-year star.Bell ran for 128 of his career-high 204 yards in the second half, including 49 on Pittsburghs final possession. We want to go out there and stay aggressive, and the line did a great job opening holes, Bell said. And the entire offence executed, so we were able to move the chains. We wanted to run the clock down as far as we could, and we were able to run it down all the way. It was a great drive.Even if good friend LeGarrette Blount didnt stick around for all of it.Blount jogged to the locker room in the final seconds, annoyed that he failed to register a carry for the first time all season. Pittsburgh responded by cutting Blount on Tuesday. While Bell said he was surprised at the decision he understands Blounts misstep would have made it hard for him to re-establish trust in the locker room as the Steelers (7-4) try to emerge from the crowded AFC North. There were some things that you cant do, and that was one of them, Bell said. When you push those buttons, thats what happens. The Steelers signed Blount last spring to help take some of the burden off Bell. It might not be necessary. The 22-year-old Bell doesnt seem to be phased by one of the NFLs heaviest workloads. He has 252 combined touches through 11 games, including 57 receptions, already a club record for the most catches in one season by a running back.Oh, to be young again, Haley joked. When everybody else was dragging around, he had a bounce in his step after the game. So, hes got energy, and well give him what he can take.Thats fine by Bell, who now finds himself the most experienced back left on the roster ahead of rookies Dri Archer, Josh Harris and LaDarius Perkins, signed Wednesday.I really dont feel any additional pressure, Bell said. This is what Ive trained for all along. Im ready for whatever they need me to do. I worked hard in the off-season and training camp to prepare myself for this time.Bell delivered a series of punishing blows while lowering his broad shoulders into Tennessee defenders Monday night while recording the NFLs highest single-game rushing total this season. Two weeks after Roethlisberger set a league record by throwing for six scores in consecutive games, the pendulum swung back the other way. With Roethlisberger under heavy pressure from the Titans, Haley decided to instead force Tennessee onto its heels by having Bell careen into gaping holes. We put a lot on him going into the game, and that was part of the plan offensively, Haley said. We all knew it, and he knew it. And he took it and ran with it, pardon the pun. He ran hard and got a lot of yards after contact. The Steelers ran for 206 yards and passed for 207 against the Titans, the kind of balance head coach Mike Tomlin was sure would come when the moment required.Pittsburgh gets a week off before a five-game sprint to end the regular season. Despite losses to the Jets and Tampa Bay, the Steelers find themselves surging behind a back that considers himself a workaholic, albeit a pragmatic one. Bell insists he will always run hard. Now hes learning how to run smart too.Youve got to find a way to get to the ground, Bell said. Thats really the biggest thing. Instead of getting hit by 2-3 guys, just get hit by one. If you cant get away, just go down. Or dont get hit at all. Step out if you get a chance, once youve gained all the yardage you need. If I can minimize the hits, Ill be fine.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLAntonio Brown Jersey . OAKLAND, Calif. -- No technical fouls or flagrant fouls. No hard hits or out-of-the ordinary elbows. Not even a dust up or any extra chatter after the whistle. This time, the Golden State Warriors wore down the Los Angeles Clippers the old-fashioned way. David Lee had 22 points and 11 rebounds, Andrew Bogut grabbed 17 boards and the Warriors whipped the Clippers 111-92 Thursday night in the first game since the emerging Pacific Division rivals spirited Christmas meeting. "If our defence is switched on like it was tonight," Bogut said, "we have a chance to be a very good team." Stephen Curry scored 22 points and handed out seven assists, and Bogut added 14 points and three blocks to highlight Golden States dominating performance down low. The Warriors outrebounded the Clippers 53 to 34 and outscored them 66 to 22 in the paint. "Weve had some special nights, so its not like we are trying to reach for something we are not capable of doing," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "We are all well aware of it. What I liked about tonight was that we set the tone early and battled." Blake Griffin finished with 27 points, Darren Collison scored 22 and DeAndre Jordan grabbed 20 rebounds for Los Angeles, which had won four straight. The Clippers looked worn out after beating Washington on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, dropping to 10-4 since All-Star point guard Chris Paul has been sidelined with a separated right shoulder. The Warriors outscored the Clippers 26-11 in the third quarter to go ahead by 23 points. Los Angeles went just 1 for 15 from the floor in the period. "I dont think there was a chance for chippiness tonight," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. "If anybody would have got chippy in this game, they would have been suspended for the year. Why would you be chippy tonight? Youre down by 30." Golden State improved to 2-1 against the Clippers this season, with the home team winning each time. The Warriors (28-19) also moved within four games of the Clippers (33-16) and percentage points of Phoenix (28-18) in the Pacific Division. The Warriors had lost six of nine entering the game after winning 10 in a row. Jackson had called out his team for playing down to its competition too often after a lacklustre loss to the Wizards on Tuesday night.dddddddddddd Playing the Clippers was one matchup that Jackson didnt have to worry about his teams focus. The series has grown increasingly testy the past two seasons as both franchises have transformed from perennial losers into Western Conference contenders. That included Golden States win in Oakland on Christmas night, which featured two ejections, two flagrant fouls and three technical fouls. Emotions never escalated in the rematch. The Warriors took control before most of the announced sellout crowd 19,596 had settled into their seats. Bogut beat Griffin for a baseline alley-oop in the opening minutes and added a pair of blocks, and Harrison Barnes soared for two driving dunks during a run propelled by the second unit that put the Warriors ahead 48-29 with 8:25 remaining in the half. Los Angeles answered behind defence and dunks -- mostly by Griffin -- in its lone run of the game. The Clippers cut Golden States lead to 64-56 at the half, leaving most fans stunned and silent, but only for a moment. "The energy was bad. I just didnt really feel like I ever had that wind or that second gear," said Griffin, who was held to just three rebounds after getting guarded mostly by Bogut. The Warriors showed incredible ball movement and rebounding prowess to begin the third quarter on a 16-2 run that had all kinds of highlights. None of the big plays during the spurt received more roars than Boguts 20-foot jumper over Jordan with the shot clock about to expire. The Warriors big man shrugged and smiled at Jordan while backpedaling to the other end, part of a run that also turned the game into a laugher. "I wish we had it figured out," Lee said, "to do it every game." NOTES: The Warriors have won 15 of the last 17 against the Clippers in Oakland. ...
